Anyone choosing to continue using their trusted PBx cannot use these Unified Messaging services, since there is no common interface between their telephone exchange and Exchange.

It provides extensive additional communications services such as fax transmission and receipt from Outlook and ERP systems, SMS transmission and receipt, and also CTI functions. These services integrate themselves in Exchange 2010 and Outlook seamlessly, and user-specific settings are administered in Active Directory without schema extensions.
